Kempner

Nestled in the Killeen–Temple–Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area, sits the town of Kempner, Texas. Founded by early settlers named Pickett in the 1850s, the town was once called Picket Valley. Before Kempner became the town’s official name, the small community was briefly known as Brummersville in 1865.

By 1882, the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway was established, so the town was renamed Kempner after Harris Kempner, a Galveston merchant and director of the railroad.

Today, the city of Kempner is home to 1,146, according to the 2020 Census.
