Goldthwaite

Goldthwaite is located in Mills County of Central Texas and was founded in 1885 not far from the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway. The town had economic ups and downs due to labor shortages, drought, and economic issues after the railroad moved its division point further away in 1890. However, starting in the mid 1930s, agricultural diversification helped Goldthwaite recover economically while the locals focused on pecans, sheep, cattle, wool, and mohair (yarn or fabric made from the wool of the Angora goat).

According to the 2019 census, Goldthwaite’s population is a little over 2,000 residents.

Dining

Although not a large city, Goldthwaite still has plenty of restaurant options to choose from. Lucky T Ranch (formerly Peabody’s Cafe) and Cahoots Cafe are family-style restaurants serving down-home country cooking morning, noon, and night.  Southside Tavern serves up delectable gourmet options for an elegant night out, and Fisher Street Bar & Grill makes for a great casual date night location. There are also lots of choices if you’re craving Mexican fare, such as El Tapatio, La Hacienda de Jalisco, and Mary’s Tacos & Burgers!
