City of San Saba, Tx

San Saba, known as the Pecan Capital of the World,  was settled in 1854 and got its name from the San Saba River. The town grew and expanded to have 4 churches, two schools, a post office, a bank, and a local paper. There was a population of 800 people by 1884. 12 years later, the population rose to 1,200 and continued to grow. Since then, the population has grown to over 3,000 residents and continues to make progress as a town.

Today, there are several restaurants in the area to satisfy any craving. There’s Pepperbelly’s, Pecan House Grill, Agave Jalisco, Oliver and Company,  and Bar D’s Brewhouse.  If you’re looking for a little caffeine to help you through your day, then try Alamo Pecan and Coffee Company, Spiral Horn Coffee Company, or Oliver & Company Bistro.

Outdoors

Do you love the great outdoors, San Saba has great outdoor areas to satisfy any nature lover. There’s the San Saba City Park! What about golfing? There’s the San Saba River Golf Course.

Historical Sites

Check out the historical sites around the town like the Saba County Courthouse, the San Saba County Jail, the San Saba County Historical Museum, the Regency Bridge, the Wedding Oak Tree, and more!

It was even said that the San Saba area was thickly populated by prehistoric man and has many artifacts that have been unearthed by archaeologists these past 75 years. 

Most numerous of early day Indians known to have inhabited Central West Texas were the Comanches, the Lipans, Cherokees, Wacos, Caddoes, and Kickapoos. Indications were that they used the streams of San Saba County as favorite camping grounds prior to and with the coming of the white man in this region.

Today, there are several restaurants in the area to satisfy any craving. There’s Cosmmie’s Tacos, Little Kitchen, and the Cactus Restaurant. There’s even the Dairy Mart Convenience Store! If you’re looking for breakfast options just need a little caffeine to help you through your day, then try Coffee Mugs N More, Starbucks Coffee, and Tnt Coffee N Creamery.

You can also beat the Texas heat with the local ice cream shops like Cactus Creamery Frozen Yogurt Shop, Tropical Sno, Fredericksburg Ice Cream Parlor, and Clear River Pecan CO.

Do you love the great outdoors, San Saba has great outdoor areas to satisfy any nature lover. There’s the San Saba City Park! What about golfing? There’s the San Saba Golf Club, the Goldthwaite Municipal Golf Course, and the Hancock Park Municipal Golf Course.

There are also amusement areas for family with energetic children. There’s Rockhopper’s Family Fun Center and the Putt-Putt Fun Center!
